Students will learn how to safely use and maintain basic bushcraft tools (Knives, Axes, Saws, etc…). A bushcraft knife (fixed blade, full tang) is required for the class and we will have basic Mora Knives for sale for $15.
Sharpening, honing, stropping and making tools SHARP!
Different tool design and choosing the right tool for you.
Using correct body mechanics for optimum tool efficiency.
Intro to carving and whittling.

Bring snacks and water.
Students will learn how to make "Inferno Disc" survival fire starters. We will cover the proper technique to build a fire lay for getting a fire going on the first attempt. Other tips and tricks for making fire in a survival situation will be covered.
All students will leave the class with a ferro rod with carbide striker, and a steel tin with "Inferno Discs".

Make a primitive canteen/waterbottle using a gourd! Gourds were used by prehistoric peoples to make all sorts of usefull everyday items. A gourd canteen would have been used to transport water from the source (like a spring or creek) to their camps. They would have also used them to take water with them on long walk abouts.

Students will learn how to make a gourd bowl. Gourds were used as prehistoric containers for thousands of years across the southwest. At the end of the class, students will use their gourd bowl to eat elk stew made in a dutch oven with home made green chili corn bread.

KNOTTED NET BAGS

Bring the water bottle you want to make your net bag for.
Learn how to make a knotted net bag for your water bottle. All supplies provided and each student will have a netting needle to take home. This technology can be used to make net bags for anything (not just water bottles)!
